Nel novembre 1975 inizia il secondo processo contro Pierre Goldman, attivista di estrema sinistra, condannato in primo grado all'ergastolo per quattro rapine a mano armata, una delle quali ha provocato la morte di due farmacisti. Goldman si proclama innocente e in poche settimane diventa l'icona della sinistra intellettuale. Lo difende il giovane avvocato Georges Kiejman, ma la loro relazione diventa tesa piuttosto in fretta. Goldman, sfuggente e provocatorio, rischia la pena capitale e il suo comportamento rende incerto l'esito del processo.
