Nel lontano 1940 la Walt Disney Production stupiva il mondo (di allora) con un film di animazione che 'metteva in immagini' alcuni dei più famosi brani di musica classica. Il film avrebbe dovuto intitolarsi didascalicamente "Il concerto filmato". Qualcuno ebbe la felice idea di chiamarlo Fantasia e quel titolo fece il giro del globo. Fantasia 2000 che è stato in gestazione nei laboratori Disney sin dal 1991, invece non convince fino in fondo.

Parigi, 1910. Madame Adelaide, una ricca, eccentrica e anziana signora, ex stella del firmamento lirico, decide di fare testamento e nomina eredi dei suoi ingenti beni i suoi quattro Aristogatti: mamma Duchessa e i cuccioli Minou, Bizet e Matisse. Madame Adelaide è rimasta sola al mondo e i quattro gatti sono i suoi affetti più grandi. A margine di questa "famiglia" c'è il maggiordomo Edgar, che sarà erede alla morte degli Aristogatti. Ma l'uomo, ansioso di mettere subito le mani sulle ricchezze della signora, decide di sbarazzarsi dei concorrenti a quattro zampe. Una notte di temporale li rapisce, ma li perde per strada durante l'incontro poco piacevole con due cani randagi. Persi per le insidiose vie di una città che non conoscono, la raffinata Duchessa e i suoi vispi cuccioli provano a tornare a casa, con l'aiuto dell'aitante Romeo, un gatto vagabondo, gigione dal cuore d'oro, incontrato per caso.

La feroce tigre Shere Khan, che per istinto odia gli esseri umani, è di nuovo nella zona; il bambino deve tornare con gli umani. Bagheera si assume il compito di accompagnare il riluttante Mowgli. Troverà un valido, anche se originale, aiuto nell'orso Baloo ma i problemi non mancheranno.

Mowgli, il ragazzo della giungla, è stato accolto da una delle famiglie del villaggio e ora vive con due genitori affettuosi, il fratellastro Ranjan e ha una cara amica, Shanti. Nonostante le cure e le attenzioni della famiglia e degli amici, Mowgli ha nostalgia del tempo trascorso nella giungla e soprattutto del suo vecchio amico, l'orso Baloo, che a sua volta rimpiange il bel tempo trascorso con il cucciolo d'uomo. E c'è qualcun altro che desidera ardentemente rivedere Mowgli, la malvagia tigre Shere Khan che non vede l'ora di attuare la sua vendetta.

Jim Hawkins è un adolescente inquieto che ha scoperto la mappa del tesoro del capitano Flint. Lo spirito d'avventura lo farà imbarcare su un vascello volante che lo porterà al pianeta dove giace questa immensa fortuna. Il lungo viaggio cambierà psicologicamente il ragazzo, anche grazie al rapporto intenso con John Silver, cuoco di bordo trasformato in cyborg; questi non è però l'innocuo vecchietto che vuole far credere, ma un vero pirata, e destituisce il comandante del vascello per cercare assieme alla sua ciurma il luogo del tesoro. Ci vorrà tutto il coraggio e l'intraprendenza del giovane Jim per salvare la pelle ed arrivare per primo al tesoro.

Simba e Nala hanno una figlia, Kiara. Timo e Pumbaa sono incaricati di farle da babysitter ma la piccola scappa avventurandosi da sola nella terra proibita. Lì incontra Kovu, un cucciolo di leone, e i due diventano amici. Ciò che la piccola Kiara e la sua famiglia non sanno è che Kovu è il figlio di Zira, una seguace in esilio del defunto Scar. Il piano di Zira è quello di far diventare re suo figlio Kovu, soppiantando Simba.

Timon vive nella fossa della vergogna costretto, come la mamma, lo zio Max e le altre suricate, a scavare gallerie sotterranee per potersi nascondere dai predatori. Un giorno, nel tentativo di creare un lucernario per poter godere un po' della luce solare, Timon provoca il crollo dell'intera galleria. Si viene a sapere che si tratta della quarta galleria che fa crollare in una sola settimana. La mamma di Timon, resasi conto delle difficoltà del figlio nell'abituarsi allo stile di vita delle suricate (che egli ritiene patetico e claustrofobico), lo convince a prestare servizio di guardia, permettendogli così di vivere all'aria aperta. Anche a questo ruolo Timon si dimostra ben presto inadatto: vagheggiando una vita migliore, la maldestra sentinella si distrae e lascia campo libero alle iene, che attaccano le altre suricate. Nessuno rimane ucciso, tuttavia la colonia perde la poca fiducia che ancora nutriva verso Timon, che decide di andarsene di casa in cerca di una vita migliore.
