Togo, che deve il proprio nome all’husky siberiano protagonista della trama, porta in scena la storia e la missione di questo cane da slitta che nel 1925 riuscì ad impedire la diffusione della difterite in una piccola cittadina dell’Alaska, rifornendo i suoi abitanti del vaccino necessario per combattere la malattia. Togo, considerato troppo piccolo e debole per affrontare un viaggio di per sé impegnativo, in più minacciato da condizioni climatiche sfavorevoli, tra venti gelidi, visibilità limitata e temperature che hanno raggiunto i -50 gradi, è riuscito con successo nel proprio compito. Ad accompagnare Togo in quest’impresa, vi è Leonhard Seppala, un esperto addestratore di cani da slitta e musher, che sceglie personalmente l’husky come guida.

Seton Academy, una scuola piena di animali dove, grazie al declino della popolazione, ci sono meno umani di qualsiasi altra creatura. Mazama Jin, un odiatore di animali e l'unico maschio umano nella sua classe, si innamora di Hino Hitomi, l'unica donna umana, nel momento in cui la guarda. Tuttavia si ritrova presto intrappolato con varie altre creature dopo essersi unito con riluttanza al "branco" di Lanka il lupo, l'unico altro membro del suo branco. Dopo essersi conosciuti, i due decidono di creare un club di cucina e, dopo alcuni malintesi sanguinari, anche Ranka si unisce presto al club. Inizia così la storia ululante e ululante di due umani normali; un adorabile lupo; un allegro koala; un pigro bradipo biondo; e un felino con disprezzo nel loro club appena scoperto, in una storia che insegna che l'amicizia può essere forgiata da creature di diverso tipo.
