Gon Freecss è un bambino di dodici anni che vive sull'Isola Balena con la zia Mito, sua madre adottiva. Incontrando Kaito, un "hunter" professionista, scopre che suo padre Ging, che lui non ha mai conosciuto, è vivo ed è uno dei migliori hunter al mondo, Gon decide perciò di diventare un hunter per cercarlo.
