Nell'orfanotrofio Nadja trova molti amici e scopre un precoce talento musicale. Durante tutta la sua vita aveva sempre creduto che i suoi genitori fossero morti, ma poco prima del suo tredicesimo compleanno scopre che la madre è ancora viva, grazie ad un pacco ricevuto, che contiene tra l'altro il diario della madre e l'abito indossato al suo primo ballo.
