James Lee Burke - Serie di Dave Robicheaux (1998-2009) (17 titoli) Trama Trama tratta da Pioggia al neon: La tensione razziale della Louisiana, la bellezza decadente di New Orleans, i conflitti tra le nuove mafie e la vecchia criminalità, l'arroganza della aristocrazia bianca, gli odori della cucina creola, il jazz, e un testardo e indomabile poliziotto cajun: questo romanzo apre la saga del detective Robicheaux, mettendo da subito in scena tutti gli ingredienti che ne hanno fatto una delle più fascinose serie poliziesche americane. Pescando persici nei bayou, Robicheaux rinviene il cadavere con le braccia sforacchiate di siringa di una giovanissima prostituta di colore. Alcuni particolari, però, convincono il detective che non si tratta di una semplice overdose. Sospetti accresciuti dal fatto che nel giro di pochi giorni Robicheaux si ritrova con una taglia sulla testa, messa da un gruppo criminale colombiano. Potrebbe trattarsi di una questione legata al narcotraffico, ma la improvvisa entrata in gioco dei federali e del Tesoro lascia intravedere un intrigo più complesso. Che coinvolge la misteriosa consegna di una partita di armi in Nicaragua. Sfuggito per miracolo a una trappola mortale, il detective della Omicidi non può però evitare una sospensione da parte dei suoi superiori, che mal vedono i suoi metodi di indagine. Mentre sprofonda verso l'alcol e gli incubi del passato Robicheaux sembra essere fuori gioco. Per respingere le accuse contro di lui, deve venire dell'intrigo che ha sacrificato quella ragazzina nera a interessi più grandi di lei.
