Quando la pecora nera, Dale Washberg, muore in circostanze sospette emergono situazioni e figure ambigue con la vedova Betty Jo e il cognato Donald che appaiono particolarmente sospetti mentre quest'ultimo è in lizza per diventare governatore dello Stato. A rendere interessante questa serie intanto il cast. Il protagonista è infatti interpretato da Ethan Hawke (Training Day) affiancato da Jeanne Tripplehorn (Terminal List) e Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks).
