Un giorno decide, assieme ad un'elfa con cui ha stretto amicizia nel mondo dei sogni, di partire per una nuova avventura ma ben presto tutto viene interrotto dalla comparsa di un drago che brucia entrambi con il suo soffio. Mentre si risveglia dal sogno Kazuhiro si rende conto che c'è qualcuno che sta dormendo nel letto con lui... ed è la sua amica elfa! Ora toccherà a Kazuhiro far vivere fantastiche avventure alla ragazza facendole conoscere il Giappone moderno.

Tuttavia, la verità è un'altra: è in realtà una forma giovane del "Behemoth", un mostro di grado S di livello catastrofico! Incontra Aria, una giovane avventuriera di grado D alle prime armi. Aria, scambiandolo per un gattino lo trova gravemente ferito, lo porta a casa per curarlo e lo chiama "Tama" facendolo diventare il suo animale domestico. Due terzi della popolazione sono scomparsi a causa della Grande Catastrofe avvenuta undici anni prima. Gli Angeli delle Tenebre di Atlandia, risorti dall'estinzione dopo dodicimila anni, terrorizzano i sopravvissuti alla disperata ricerca del Prana, la bioenergia degli esseri umani. Per contrastarli viene fondata un'agenzia speciale chiamata Deava che recupera dal mare tre macchine ibride da combattimento, che già una volta hanno sconfitto gli Angeli delle Tenbre, per dare vita all'angelo meccanico Aquarion. Per poter operare l'angelo ha bisogno di tre Element dal cuore puro e dalle capacità sensoriali molto sviluppate. In tutto il mondo si svolgono le selezioni per reclutare i candidati adatti. E la guerra sacra ha inizio.
