La serie è ambientata a Londra, nel periodo natalizio. Al centro della trama c'è Helen Webb (Keira Knightley), una moglie e madre scrupolosa che è una spia professionista. Da 10 anni la donna condivide i segreti del marito politico all'oscura organizzazione per cui lavora, le Black Doves. Quando il suo amante Jason (Andrew Koji) viene ucciso, il suo capo, l'enigmatica Reed (Sarah Lancashire), si affida a Sam (Ben Whisahw), un vecchio amico di Helen, per proteggerla. Helen e Sam inizieranno quindi una missione per provare a scoprire chi ha ucciso Jason e il motivo per cui lo ha fatto, scoprendo anche una vasta cospirazione che collega la malavita londinese a un'incombente crisi geopolitica.
