Destreggiarsi fra una relazione, le responsabilità genitoriali, le amicizie e un fratello malato, mentre si cerca di guadagnare da vivere sarebbe difficile per tutti, ma lo è ancora di più per Ray Shoesmith, un criminale assoldato. Ray si “prende cura delle persone” indebitandosi, cercando di allontanarle dalla droga e dalle armi e spesso anche occupandosi di loro in modo più permanente. Ray chiede solo rispetto e non sopporta quando qualcuno ignora il suo chiaro codice etico.
