    La quattordicenne Mika sogna il campeggio estivo ma, come punizione per essere stata bocciata, i genitori decidono di mandarla nella fattoria della severa nonna. Una volta in campagna, oltre a conoscere Sam, il giovane ragazzo addetto alle stalle, Mika scopre qualcosa che cattura sin da subito la sua attenzione: il selvaggio stallone Ostwind. Poiché nessuno è capace di domare il cavallo, una notte Mika decide di introdursi nella stalla, dando inizio a una particolare amicizia che le permette di scoprire di essere in grado di "parlare" ai cavalli.

    L'estate è arrivata e Mika è felice di rivedere nuovamente lo stallone Ostwind quando sul ventre dell'animale scopre alcune ferite inspiegabili, venendo anche a sapere che la tenuta Kaltenbach è sull'orlo del fallimento. Con il cuore triste, Mika decide di partecipare a un torneo equestre che mette in premio una cospicua somma di denaro. Durante gli allenamenti, però, Ostwind fugge nelle profondità di una foresta, dove Mika incontra una cavalla grigia e uno strano ragazzo di nome Milan. Questi si offre di aiutarla a vincere il torneo ma i tempi per Kaltenbach si fanno sempre più stretti.
