C'è una teoria secondo cui dovremmo nascere con una quota di alcol nel sangue. Tale modesta percentuale aprirebbe la nostra mente al mondo che ci circonda, diminuendo i problemi e aumentando la creatività. Incoraggiati da tale presupposto, Martin e tre suoi amici, tutti annoiati insegnanti di scuola superiore, intraprendono un esperimento teso a mantenere un livello costante di alcol nel sangue durante l'arco della giornata lavorativa. I risultati in un primo momento sono positivi e il piccolo progetto si trasforma in breve in vero studio accademico. Tuttavia, non passerà molto tempo prima che porti a conseguenze inaspettate.

In una sera d’agosto del 1996, nella casa di Ventotene dove il giornalista Sandro Molino trascorreva le vacanze, la sua compagna Cecilia gli rivelò di essere incinta. Oggi Altiero Molino è un ventiseienne imprenditore digitale e torna a Ventotene col marito fotomodello per radunare i vecchi amici intorno al padre malato, per regalargli un’ultima vacanza in quel luogo per lui così caro. Non si aspettava di trovare l’isola in fermento per il matrimonio di Sabry Mazzalupi col suo fidanzato Cesare: la ragazzina goffa figlia del bottegaio romano Ruggero, è diventata una celebrità del web e le sue nozze sono un evento mondano che attira i media e anche misteriosi emissari del nuovo potere politico.
