Normalmente, estorce denaro dai criminali del posto. Una notte gli viene assegnata un’indagine per omicidio. Una cantante è stata trovata morta al Nile Hilton. Quello che inizialmente sembra essere un crimine passionale si rivela essere qualcosa che riguarda le alte sfere della società egiziana.

Disperato, decide di mettersi dalla parte di chi lo vessa per esigere il rimborso lavorando gratis come recuperatore crediti per una finanziaria che compra i debiti insoluti delle banche. Nel suo nuovo ruolo dovrà tormentare i debitori secondo un crescendo di interventi: prima la pubblica umiliazione, poi le percosse. Ad insegnargli il mestiere è Franco, esattore professionista cui basta una confessione in chiesa per liberarsi dai sensi di colpa. Sarà altrettanto facile per Guido?

Samuele e Matteo hanno pochi anni e grandi spazi da scoprire. Boschi, fiumi, luna park, centri commerciali, strade sterrate punteggiano un territorio che percorrono a grandi falcate e prolungati silenzi. La scuola è finita e davanti c'è solo un'estate di ozio e di attesa in cui ripensare i piccoli amori conclusi, i piccoli affanni vissuti. Tra tuffi e pesca, scontri e autoscontri, Samuele e Matteo sperimentano la loro età, sfuggendo alla virilità ottusa, spiando una 'graziosa' e la sua rosa, tuffandosi in vasche d'acqua, permeabili come cormorani. E come i cormorani si stendono al sole, sognando di fiumi ricchi di pesci e possibilità.

La storia vede il protagonista Ryo Takatsuki e i ragazzi che frequentano una scuola vivere una vita tranquilla, ma appena arrivano dei nuovi compagni iniziano le prime incomprensioni e le prime sfide. Dopo che il gruppo si solidifica arrivano diversi nemici sempre più potenti fino a scoprire che i protagonisti posseggono delle qualità straordinarie, e vi sono alcuni decisi a tutto pur di ucciderli. Il loro nemico è l'organizzazione dell'Egrigori, che aveva in passato creato tutte le Arms. I ragazzi comprendono che fino a quando esiste tale organizzazione non potranno mai vivere la vita normale di prima, e decidono così di combatterla.

We see the opening flashback through young Ryo Takatsuki's eyes. A strange voice asks him if he wants power. Ryo has been crushed in a building collapse. As the doctors work on him he hears the list of his injuries, especially the fact they can't save his right arm. Growing weaker, he wonders if he is dying. Desperate, he screams he is not ready to go yet. The voice accepts. Cut to the present day, the modern–day Aisora City, part of greater Tokyo. We see a typical Japanese high school, a couple of multi-storied buildings surrounded by athletic fields. And rappelling down the side of one of those buildings is 17-year-old Ryo, who is looking at some swifts nesting on the side of the building. Down below, Ryo's irritated girlfriend, Katsumi Akagi, demands he come down immediately! Ryo complies with good humor, and they and other students start cleaning up the grounds. Suddenly Ryo badly cuts his hand on some glass. His shocked classmates see the cut heal almost instantly. Ry 1: Vibration

Hayato is stunned: Ryo's not an enemy? Ryo doesn't care, he just wants Claw to release Katsumi. Claw says if they surrender, he won't kill them . . . maybe. Katsumi suddenly breaks free and runs towards Ryo, but Claw strikes at her from behind. Ryo can't get to her in time! Suddenly Hayato is there, grabbing Claw's arm with his own mutated limb and protecting Katsumi. Hayato screams that it's all his fault that they got involved in this mess. He'll take care of Claw, they need to escape now! Ryo and Katsumi flee down the ruined hospital's corridors. Suddenly Ryo stops. He tells Katsumi to run home, he's going back to help Hayato.
