La storia di Mob Psycho 100 si sviluppa intorno a “Mob”, un ragazzo che esploderebbe se vivesse le sue emozioni al 100%. Questo ragazzo con strani poteri psichici ha guadagnato il suo nickname “Mob” (la folla, la massa) perché difficilmente si distingue in mezzo alle altre persone. Per evitare di perdere il controllo del suo corpo ed esplodere, quindi, il protagonista cerca di tenere chiusi dentro di sé tutti i suoi sentimenti, per condurre una vita normale. Ma la cosa non si rivelerà per niente facile.

Protagonista del film è Christian, curatore di un importante museo di arte contemporanea di Stoccolma, nonché padre amorevole di due bambine. Una legge centrale, varata per arginare la crescita incontrollata della popolazione, permette alle famiglie il concepimento di un solo figlio per nucleo. In questo contesto austero e limitato, sette sorelle gemelle lottano per vivere un’esistenza normale fingendo di essere tutte la stessa persona (una ragazza di nome Karen Settman), e alternandosi nei suoi panni nel mondo esterno per qualche ora a settimana. Alle piccole Lunedì, Martedì, Mercoledì, Giovedì, Venerdì, Sabato e Domenica, allevate dal nonno, è permesso uscire di casa soltanto nel giorno corrispondente al proprio nome, con il divieto assoluto di rivelare il segreto della loro famiglia. Nascoste per sei giorni a settimana, camuffate nelle ore concesse all’esterno, crescono senz’altra compagnia che quella del nonno e delle sorelle, fino a quando una di loro, Lunedì, non sparisce nel nulla. Toccherà alle altre investigare sulla scomparsa della maggiore, anche se questo significa uscire al di fuori del giorno stabilito.
