Su un pianeta lontano la razza dei Predator ha creato il suo Colosseo senza pubblico. Raccolgono e ammassano esemplari di altre razze (per quanto ne sappiamo più che altro umani), li gettano nella foresta senza spiegazioni e gli danno la caccia apprendendo da loro tecniche e strategie. Quando sul pianeta arriva un gruppo eterogeneo composto da guerriglieri, soldati e mercenari, tutti a modo loro dei predatori nella loro vita terrestre, la faccenda si complica perchè pur non conoscendosi collaboreranno al fine di evitare di cadere vittime e tornare sul pianeta d'origine.

Ogaki. Il liceale Shoya Ishida sta per saltare dal ponte per suicidarsi, ma all'ultimo desiste. Cinque anni prima, ai tempi della scuola elementare, nella classe di Shoya arriva Shoko Nishimiya, una ragazza sordomuta: l'accoglienza dei suoi compagni da timida diviene in breve tempo ostile. Per quanto Shoko si sforzi di essere gentile e disponibile con tutti, un gruppetto, capitanato da Shoya, si accanisce contro di lei. Cinque anni dopo Shoya ancora non è in grado di darsi pace per i torti inflitti a Shoko, anche perché la conseguenza delle sue azioni passate è la totale solitudine.
