Guts torna dai Falchi e scopre che, dopo la sua partenza, Griffith è stato catturato e fatto prigioniero dalle truppe del Re di Midland. Guts, Casca e i Falchi partono subito alla volta del castello di Midland per salvare la loro guida. Una volta giunti nelle terribili segrete in cui è rinchiuso, grazie all'aiuto della principessa Charlotte, devono affrontare un'atroce realtà: Griffith non è più il fiero guerriero di un tempo; dopo mesi di strazianti torture e terribili mutilazioni, è un uomo agonizzante, in fin di vita, che ha perso l'uso degli arti e della parola. Guts, Casca e tutti gli altri compagni sono in preda al panico ed alla disperazione, ignari dell'inimmaginabile pericolo che li attende con l'arrivo di un'eclissi.
