Dopo anni di comportamenti inquietanti, Emma (Abigail Cowen) subì un lungo calvario di rituali condotti da Padre Theophilus Riesinger (Al Pacino) con l’aiuto di Padre Joseph Steiger (Dan Stevens). I due preti, uno in crisi con la propria fede e l’altro perseguitato da un oscuro passato, dovettero unire le forze per eseguire una serie di estenuanti e terrificanti esorcismi per salvare l’anima della giovane donna.
