Olivia è una ragazza di ventisette anni in crisi esistenziale. Un incidente quasi mortale, però, le apre gli occhi sul fatto che la vita è una sola e che forse lei, in tutta questa fretta, si è persa dei passaggi. Olivia inizia a chiedersi se sia ancora in tempo per recuperare. Come un brutto raffreddore, i dubbi esistenziali di Olivia vanno a infettare tutte le persone che ha attorno, portandoli a fare e farsi domande scomode: chi è il misterioso padre delle bambine? Come è possibile fare coming out se non ti sei accettato tu per primo? Come si perdonano gli errori del passato? E come si dimostra di essere cambiati? Con i toni accesi della commedia brillante e scorretta, Volevo fare la rockstar racconta un punto di vista femminile sulla crescita e sulla maturità, ma anche una provincia italiana impoverita dalla crisi.
